What are the most important aspects of water purification devices for home and especially for outdoors?

the filter part of it has to be able to "filter" very small bacteria–the smaller the size the better–this will eliminate bacteria and protozoa–BUT you then need to take care of virueses—thats what the purifier does..so its has a 2 step process: filtering for bacteria/protozoa and purifying for viruses
